Hey! Where’s the disabled people?

Representations

Television and media has consisted of an un diverse population. The only reputation Media portrayed was able bodied straight white men. Today boundaries are being pushed with more reputation of people of color, different sex orientation and so on.

     Fundamentals of Caring

The movie fundamentals of caring is a really good movie of a boy with cerebral palsy and his new caregiver. This movie went to the nitty-gritty of the drama works a caregiver has to go through to take care of someone. It was also really uplifting because you could see the personality change the main character had after warming up and getting comfortable with his new caregiver. This is very relatable because I’ve had caregivers come and go but there are always a few that bring out the best of me. They’ll make me laugh and tell jokes. It’s hard depending on somebody but when you have somebody that cares it makes it all better.

Being Disabled

As a disabled person of color I rarely see people that represent me. Many of the shows I’ve seen of disabled people the character was either cold and mean or lacked confidence for example The Fundamentals of Caring . Like usual  the actual actor playing a disabled person isn’t even disabled. Usually when you see a disabled person on the big screen they usually are an amputee or somebody with cerebral palsy.  It’s perfectly fine to represent these disabilities but they are not the only disabilities out there, and they are for certain not the only disabilities that need recognition and representation.
